Cancer Charities Commend the Princess of Wales on Speaking out About Her Cancer Diagnosis

After weeks of controversy and conspiracies circulating around the Princess of Wales’ abdominal operation and absence from the limelight, the future Queen finally speaks out about the truth.

Inappropriate Conspiracies Circulate

It seems the public went mad when the Princess of Wales pulled back on public appearances and the rumours followed shortly, with known celebrities making inappropriate speculations on the matter.

After her abdominal operation in January, Kate has been spotted twice looking happy and healthy, however, it isn’t until after Easter that she is expected to resume her public duties.

Kate, now aged 42, made the brave decision to release a video message on Friday which explained that during her adnominal surgery, her cancer condition was discovered.

She described the news as a “huge shock” and has asked for “time, space and privacy” as she is still healing from her major abdominal operation but also as she will undergo preventative chemo treatment.

Surgery Successful but Cancer Detected

In the video statement Kate mentioned that at the time of surgery, doctors believed her condition was noncancerous. Her surgery was successful, but later tests found evidence of cancer.

Kate has explained that in the weeks that followed her surgery, she and her husband needed time to properly explain the situation to their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

The children have had the reassurance from Kate that she is getting healthier every day, and they had to find a way to explain the news in an appropriate manner that will let them know that she will be okay.

The princess went on to say, “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

Cancer Charities Praise the Princess

Cancer charities have praised Kate for speaking out as it will hopefully raise awareness and prompt the public to be aware and act on early detection.

Maggie’s, a cancer charity, was encouraged to post tips on how to approach and talk to young children about cancer after the video was released. The chief executive of Maggie’s, Dame Laura Lee said: “We are incredibly sorry to hear the Princess of Wales’s news and our thoughts are with her.”

Dame Lee also went on to explain how challenging and worrying a cancer diagnosis can be for the entire family, stating “Our thoughts are with them all.”

Kate’s Cancer Can Help Raise Awareness

When a high-profile individual such as Kate has a platform to the world, it can be used for the positive. Kate’s unfortunate diagnosis can help raise awareness of cancer.

Cancer Research UK’s chief executive, Michelle Mitchell, stated that the princess’s cancer case can help others seek help early. The earlier the treatment, the “more likely to be successful.”

Cancer Statistics Are Devastating

The statistics for cancer are harrowing with nearly one in two people developing cancer in our lifetimes. Macmillan Cancer Support states that about 393,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer annually.

Mitchell said, “High-profile cases often act as a prompt to encourage people to find out more or think about their own health. If people spot something that’s not normal or isn’t going away, they should check with their GP ”

Cancer Not Specified

King Charles III, announced his own cancer diagnosis and treatment in early February with Kate following shortly after. Both royals have yet to disclose their type of cancer, but it leaves for a lot of uncertainty.

The children’s school has now closed for the Easter break, which was a good time for the family to finally share the news with the public as they were waiting for the right time for them.

The future queen ended her video statement with a message for all other cancer victims, stating, “For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
