Candace Owens had a controversial response for a student who asked her a question about her anti-trans beliefs during a speaking engagement at the University of Albany.
Taking Center Stage
Controversial conservative commentator Candace Owens is 8 months pregnant, but she’s continued to tour the country with Turning Point USA as part of TPUSA’s Live Free Tour.
She has spent most of 2023 speaking at schools throughout the country to help promote conservative politics on behalf of the organization.
Causing a Stir
Most recently, Owens attended a speaking engagement at the University of Albany, and she managed to cause her fair share of controversy during it.
Fielding the Tough Questions
During the event, a student decided to ask Owens a question concerning her anti-transgender beliefs. Owens has been very outspoken when it comes to sharing her thoughts on transgender people in the past.
“Actively Victimized”
“What do you have to say to the trans students on this campus who feel actively victimized by your presence here?” the student asked.
Pulling No Punches
Owens responded by taking aim at anyone who might have been offended by her decision to visit the University of Albany to speak. “Life’s tough, get a helmet, man,” she said. And she didn’t stop there.
“Too Pregnant”
Owens also suggested that she has more important things on her mind right now. “I’m too pregnant for this,” she said.
Receiving a Mixed Reaction
A video of the University of Albany student asking Owens a question started to go viral shortly after the event ended. It showed some people cheering for Owens.
Getting the Cold Shoulder
But not everyone was thrilled with what Owens had to say to the student. Other people either stayed silent following her response or showed their disgust with it.
Adding Fuel to the Fire
Owens would go on to share the video of her answering the University of Albany student’s question on X.
She would also pour a little more gasoline on the situation by adding a controversial caption to it.
Refusing to Back Down
“I am over 8 months pregnant with two toddlers at home,” Owens wrote. “If you are a 20 year old adult who feels ‘actively victimized’ by my standing on stage to speak about social and economic conservatism, it is because your parents failed you, entirely. It is not my job to coddle adults.”
Creating More Outrage
Owens’ caption on her X post would kick up even more dust on social media. It reached about 5 million people and elicited a wide range of responses from those who saw it.
Taking Her Side
There were some people who agreed with Owens’ words. They referred to her as “brave” on X and thanked her for providing her critics with “straight talk.”
Pushing Back Against Her
Other people weren’t as appreciative after seeing what Owens had said to a group of young college students. They called her words “nasty quips” and referred to her as a “shill who will say anything for money.”
Capitalizing on the Situation
Owens didn’t seem to care what people had to say about her on X, though. In fact, she decided to make the most of all the attention her original response to the college student received.
Selling Merch
Within just 24 hours of her appearance at the University of Albany, Owens started selling autographed “Life’s tough, get a helmet, man” sweatshirts on the Daily Wire website for $75 each.
