“I will not be silenced by a rich ‘lefty’…” was the words of Kemi Badenoch as David Tennant hurled harsh words. From heated debates to roaring disses, things continue raging on, just weeks ahead of the elections.
Silence? No!
The Minister for Women and Equalities Kemi Badenoch, has said she will not be silenced in response to “threat-like” comments from actor David Tennant.
Shots Fired
Famous for starring in the popular sci-fi Doctor Who, David Tennant said in an award acceptance speech that “he hoped that Kemi Badenoch no longer existed.” The Scottish actor was awarded for being an ally of the LGBT community.
X (formerly Twitter) Debate
As with many topics, people took to X and further voiced their opinions in light of the events at the LGBT Awards.
Ideology
Badenoch has said that the actor was a “rich, lefty, white male celebrity, blinded by ideology.”
Peek Into the Future
The Women and Equalities minister had also commented on X, saying that the actor was a Labour supporter and his actions were a preview of what it would be like if they had won.
Fighting for Women’s Rights
Badenoch has vowed to amend the Equality Act to clarify that sex means biological women and not a “redefined” meaning to the word. She also added that in doing this change it would help protect women from biological men.
Loopholes in the System
Badenoch has said in previous interviews that the ease of the GRC (Gender Recognition Certificate) would create other problems. It could create “loopholes for predators” to enter single-sex spaces.
Rallying Together
The Women Won’t Wheesht is a grassroots organisation dedicated to fighting for biological women’s rights to safe, single-sex spaces.
Campaigning for Safety and More
Women Won’t Wheesht is also a non-political group. The organisation has various campaigns at the core of what they do. Some of the work includes campaigns against identity-driven, experimental medical procedures performed on children.
Support in Speech
Harry Potter author JK Rowling has become one of the prominent voices for women’s rights and the fight for single-sex spaces.
Support in Writing
Rowling has written a piece for her new book mentioning the Women Won’t Wheesht organisation. The book is said to depict the struggles for women’s rights in this modern age.
Live and Be Who They Want
Tennant has said that the British LGBTQ+ awards that “… everyone has the right to be who they want to be ad live their life the way they want to live it, as long as they are not hurting anyone else.”
Depressing Awards
Tennant also said that the British LGBTQ awards were depressing because he was given an award for acknowledging peoples rights to be and live the way they want.
Rephrasing Words
The actor said he wants to wake up and know that “Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist anymore.” Yet, after saying what he did, he quickly added that he “didn’t wish ill of her” and that he just wished that she would “shut up.”
Controversial and Enraging
Tennant’s words were called out by feminist and women activists, as “misogynistic,” “nasty,” and “petty,” amongst other things.
Barey Veiled Threats
“…Women are fighting for safety, dignity, and privacy, and this Mancan only tell us ‘to be kind’ even as he issues barely veiled threats,” was one of the comments from activists.
Just Wow
““Not wishing evil but wishing someone dont exist. Obviously, not a woman losing her rights to safe spaces, privacy, dignity, or fair sports, so just doesn’t care! Just wow…,” olympic swimmer sharrondavies said.
An Apology, Perhaps?
James Cleverly, the Home Secretary, said that he wasn’t sure if the actor understood the irony of trying to silence one of England’s most senior black female politicians. Cleverly also added that he hoped that the Doctor Who actor would see his fault and apologise to Badenoch.
Many Challenges
Badenoch has been in many fiery debates and her stance on women’s rights and creating safe single-sex spaces for women has been challenged.
Accusations
Kate Osborne accused Badendoch of rousing hate towards trans people, which the minister of Equality sharply denied and accused Osborne of making false statements.
Votes Coming up Soon
With less than a week to go before elections, fierce competition between parties continues to stir opinion differences.
