A new poll has suggested that the London mayoral election isn’t a one-way street anymore, as one candidate is creeping up behind the favourite.
Mayoral Race Heats Up
With London’s mayoral elections just around the corner, a new poll showed a surprising boost in public opinion from one candidate.
Khan’s Lead at Risk
With current London Mayor Sadiq Khan previously looking set to win a third term in office, a recent poll has thrown a spanner in the works.
Sadiq Khan’s Biggest Critic
Tory candidate Susan Hall has been a stern critic of Khan on many issues, although hasn’t been able to win over public opinion.
Susan Hall’s Momentum
A recent YouGov opinion poll showed that Susan Hall’s campaigning might be paying off after all, revealing her significant boost in public confidence.
Hall’s Percentage Increase
The poll suggested that Hall’s popularity increased by three percentage points just two weeks before the voters go to the polls.
Khan’s Lead at the Top
The previous poll suggested that Khan was in the lead by a significant amount, topping the opinion poll with 49% of public confidence.
Hall’s Boost in Confidence
YouGov’s latest poll shows that Hall is creeping up on the Labour candidate, with her overall percentage reaching 27%, while Khan’s received a blow.
Khan’s Confidence Drop
The Mayor of London saw his public confidence drop from 49% to 46%, as Hall effectively stole three percentage points off her rival.
Khan’s “Two-Horse Race”
Khan recently described the mayoral elections as a “clear two-horse race” between himself and Hall, although his lead was significantly larger then.
Hall Cements Second Place
Other candidates include Lib Dem candidate, Rob Blackie, Green Party candidate, Zoe Garbett and Reform UK’s Howard Cox, who all remain significantly behind second place Susan Hall.
ULEZ Scheme and Knife Crime Cause for Concern
Hall has been a heavy critic of Khan over a number of contentious topics, including the ULEZ scheme and the rise in knife crime throughout the city.
Housing Crisis Concern
Khan has also promised to tackle the housing crisis, with the two leading candidates at loggerheads over how to solve homelessness.
Homelessness as a Natural Issue
Khan has pledged he would solve homelessness if elected by injecting an extra £10 million of funding to help eradicate the idea that homelessness is a natural part of society.
Khan’s Bold Pledge
Khan also pledged to build more council houses, promising an extra 40,000 before the decade’s end, although Hall dismissed this as a lie.
Khan’s False Promises
According to Hall, “Sadiq Khan has only started building 4% of the affordable homes he promised in the latest programme,” dismissing his promises.
Khan “Making Stuff Up”
Hall also insisted that Khan was simply “making stuff up” by promising to build an extra 40,000 homes if reelected.
Hall’s Assertion on Homelessness
Hall argued that temporary accommodation is not the answer to solving the homelessness crisis, suggesting more affordable housing should be available.
Hall Blames Khan’s “Failure”
Hall insisted “it is his (Khan’s) failure that has kept people stuck in temporary accommodation and made it harder to get rough sleepers off the streets.”
Hall’s Momentum
With Hall creeping up on Khan in the polls, it’s vital that Hall keeps up the momentum she’s finally started to build.
