A London mayoral candidate was forcibly removed from the recent hustings event after repeatedly heckling Sadiq Khan on his poor knife crime statistics.
Mayoral Hustings Disrupted
During the first London mayoral hustings, one candidate’s protests against Sadiq Khan’s handling of knife crime led to the event’s suspension.
Knife Crime Handling Under Scrutiny
Khan’s record of tackling knife crime has been the main point of contention for his opposition, including Tory candidate Susan Hall.
Criticism Stepping Up
Throughout the campaign, many opposition candidates have slammed Khan for his response to the issue, although this time took a sinister turn.
Protest Over Violent Crime
An independent candidate for the role of London Mayor, Andreas Michli, accompanied by two others, disrupted the first hustings.
Removing The Candidate
Michli was eventually removed from the event by security after refusing to let Khan speak without being heckled by him and his group.
Shouting Out Knife Crime Victims
According to the witnesses, Michi shouted out the names of those who lost their lives to knife crime while Khan has been in leadership.
“Children Are Dying”
Michli allegedly shouted “Children are dying” at Khan, who became increasingly irritated by the heckles before getting security to intervene.
Michli Protesting Method
Michli also admitted during the heckling process that he was protesting “the absolute doo-doo coming out of his [Mr Khan’s] mouth” regarding knife crime.
Taking Khan Abuse to the Next Level
Michli’s abuse didn’t stop there, as he also took a dig at Khan’s height, yelling, “The little man over there will continue to let teenagers die.”
Two Horse Race Election
Khan recently described the London Mayoral elections, due to take place on May 2nd, as a “two horse race” between him and his Conservative candidate.
Public Confidence in Khan
A recent Savanta poll showed the extent of Khan’s lead over Hall, with the Labour Party candidate winning 51% of the vote.
Hall Criticism Ramps Up
With Hall sitting in second place, taking just 27% of the public vote, the Tory candidate has also ramped up her criticism towards Khan.
Khan’s Recent Clash With Hall
At the hustings, Khan clashed with Susan Hall as she continued to use knife crime as a way of getting the public on her side.
Hall Against Free School Meals
Hall also criticized Khan for his support of free school meals, arguing that she doesn’t believe taxpayers’ money should be spent on food for wealthy parents’ children.
Free School Meals? “There Is No Such Thing”
According to the Conservative candidate, “There is no such thing as a free school meal,” as “People have to pay for it” regardless.
People “On The Breadline” Paying For School Meals
Hall insisted that “We could have people on the breadline without children having to pay for food for people who may be millionaires’ children.”
Khan’s Response Didn’t Hold Back
Khan responded by accusing Hall of not having the qualifications for the role of London Mayor, using an anecdote comparing her to a school head mistress.
Susan “Hates Kids”
According to Khan, “Susan acts like somebody who applies to be the headteacher of a school but hates kids” while arguing that free school meals should be a child’s right.
Hall’s Alleged Lack of Qualifications
Khan accused Hall of being the “head teacher” who “hates teachers, hates parents and has no qualifications.”
Election Day on May 2nd
As election day approaches on May 2nd, Michli’s decision to heckle Khan shows an attempt to gain public attention in the so-called “two horse race”.
