A new poll has revealed the amount of previous Tory voters looking to switch their allegiance to Reform UK at this year’s general election.
Tory Woes Continue
A Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll has revealed another huge blow for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party ahead of the 2024 general election.
Reform UK Defectors
The latest blow involved the right-wing Party, Reform UK, which saw two former Tory MPs defect over to it in the last couple of months alone.
Tory Voters Switch Allegiance
According to the poll, many of those who voted Conservative in the last general election in 2019 have pledged their vote for Reform UK this year.
One-Fifth of Tory Voters Back Reform
The poll found that more than one-fifth of 2019 Conservative voters indicated a preference for Reform UK if the general election were to be held in May.
Conservative Voter Shift
According to the survey, 22% of individuals who voted for the Conservative Party in 2019 expressed a willingness to switch their support to Reform UK.
Less Than Half Pledge Support
The survey also suggested that out of those who voted for the Conservatives in 2019, only 44% would vote for Risi Sunak’s current government.
Reform UK Supporters
Reform UK is the resurrection of the Brexit Party, with support from many of the same politicians who backed UKIP, including former Brexit Party and UKIP leader Nigel Farage.
Sunak Issues Warning
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently warned the public that a vote for any Party that isn’t the Tories would be a vote to get Labour into government.
Tories Face Polling Disaster
The Tories currently sit far behind Labour in the polls after 14 years in charge of the country, with only 20% of voters backing the Party in a recent Ipsos poll.
Reform UK Creeping Up Behind
Reform UK currently sits just 8 percentage points behind the Conservative Party in the polls, while Labour leads the way with over 20 points more than the Tories.
Appeal of Labour Party
In addition to the surge in support for Reform UK, the survey indicated that 20% of respondents expressed a preference for Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party.
Tory MPs Defect to Reform
Former Tory MPs Lee Anderson and Dan Barker recently announced they would be defecting to Reform UK after disagreements with Rishi Sunak.
Anderson Has Whip Suspended
Lee Anderson had the whip suspended when he made controversial comments surrounding the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
Anderson Claims Islamists In Control
Anderson claimed that the Mayor of London had allowed “his mates” to take “control” over London, describing them as “Islamists.”
Tice Welcomes Anderson to Reform UK
Richard Tice, leader of Reform UK, welcomed Anderson with open arms after the controversial “Islamist” comments, describing Anderson as Reform’s new “champion.”
Mayoral Candidate’s Switch
Dan Barker, a former Tory MP and current candidate for the role of Mayor of Greater Manchester, announced his decision to switch to Reform UK.
Reform’s Latest Recruit
Barker hailed Reform UK as “the new home of Conservatism” in a dig at his former Party who is currently facing a mass walkout from its MPs.
Sunak’s Potential Ousting
Rumours have surfaced about Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s potential ousting from members of his own party ahead of the general election, with Penny Mordaunt reportedly lined up to replace him.
Tory Mass Walkout Continues
Over 60 Tory MPs have announced their resignation from the party, with some quitting after multiple decades in parliament due to a lack of confidence in Sunak.
Reform UK Gaining Traction
As Reform UK gains popularity among voters, it seems Sunak’s fears are coming true as every vote for Reform UK would put Labour one step closer to the hot seat.
