According to a watchdog, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is costing the taxpayers millions more by trying to house migrants too quickly, which resulted in “Increased risk.”

Recent findings by the National Audit Office (NAO) suggest that government plans for asylum accommodation are facing criticism due to huge costs and lengthy delays.
Billion Pound Project
According to the NAO’s research, the Home Office plans to move the asylum seekers to houses instead of hotels, costing the taxpayer up to £1.2 billion.
Increased Costs Compared to Hotels
When compared to where asylum seekers have been held until now, the Watchdog found that housing the migrants in this way costs £46 million more than hotels and barges.
Sunak’s Rwanda Woes
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has been under fire recently for his proposed Rwanda Bill, which is facing difficulties in Parliament to be passed.
Sunak Wants Rwanda “Deterrent”
In a speech in Coventry, Sunak insisted that he believes the UK needs to use the Rwanda Bill as a “deterrent” to stop organised crime gangs from people smuggling across the Channel.
Aiming for Flights in Spring
In his speech, Sunak insisted to that crowd that he is “still committed to the timeline that I set out previously, which is we aim to get a flight off in the spring.”
Ignoring Calls For Spring Election
One thing that many MPs were calling for Sunak to announce in time for Spring was a snap election, although Sunak ruled out those claims opting to wait until Autumn.
Sunak Waves Away Ousting Claims
Sunak waved away rumours that he could be ousted by his own Party and replaced by Penny Mordaunt during his time in the West Midlands, insisting his focus was on Britain’s future.
Sunak Faces Rwanda Backlash
Sunak is facing alleged discontent within his own party, largely due to the proposed Rwanda bill that has caused many to speak out publicly against him, with some even resigning.
Immigration Minister Resigns
Former Immigration Minister, Robert Jenrick, resigned from his position for his disagreement with Sunak’s Rwanda Bill, arguing that it doesn’t go far enough.
Braverman Insists It “Won’t Work”
Other Tory MPs, including the former Home Secretary Suella Braverman, slammed the bill, arguing that it “won’t work” and it “won’t stop the boats.”
Government Seeks to Fund Housing
The government is looking at various places in the UK to develop and house migrants, including the controversial Bibby Stockholm barge along with former RAF bases and student accommodation.
Home Office’s Big Spending
It was reported that the Home Office are looking to spend at least £230 million on these areas, although currently there are delays with only two in action holding less than 1000 people between them.
NAO’s Accusations
According to NAO head Gareth Davies, the government’s rapid pursuit of its accommodation plans has resulted in “increased risks” and now higher costs for the taxpayer as a result.
Davies Wants Tories to Learn From Mistakes
Davies slammed the government’s approach, calling on the Conservatives to learn from their mistakes and “reflect on lessons learned.”
Labour’s Response
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper labelled the findings as “staggering,” claiming Sunak has “taken the Tories chaos and failure in the asylum system to a new level”.
Sunak Losing Grip?
With many Tory MPs contributing to a mass walkout ahead of the general election, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Sunak is losing his grip on the Tory Party.
