In a speech at the Scottish Trade Union Congress, one Scottish Minister slammed the Tories who “heaped misery” on Scottish families.
Yousaf’s Tory Assertion
Humza Yousaf, Scotland’s First Minister, asserted his confidence in the demise of the Conservative Party at the upcoming general election.
Effects of General Election
While he spoke of the possible magnitude of the general election for Scotland, Yousaf didn’t hold back on his opinion on the current Conservative government.
Yousaf Wishes For End of Tory Rule
Yousaf expressed his hope that no more Tories would be in government after the election, which is expected to be announced in Autumn.
Yousaf Hopes Tories Are “Finished”
According to Yousaf, “I don’t think in any way, shape or form I’m going out on a limb here when I say I think and I hope that this Tory Government is finished.”
A “Tory Free” Scotland
The Scottish First Minister has a history of campaigning heavily against the Conservatives, recently running one that urged voters to “Make Scotland Tory Free.”
Campaign Support and Critics
Although many agreed with the rhetoric, including Scottish Independent Minister Jamie Hepburn, some stern critics would not endorse the campaign.
A “Straightforward Message”
While Hepburn called the campaign “a very clear and straightforward message,” one SNP minister, Pete Wishart, claimed he would not endorse it.
Yousaf Claims Full Support
Yousaf implied in his speech to the STUC Congress that he had the full support of everyone in the room as he condemned the 14 years of Tory leadership.
A Lack of Opposition in The Room
Yousaf insisted that was “certain” he wasn’t “offending anybody in this room” before admitting that he looks forward to seeing the Party removed from power.
Excitement to See The Back of Tories
The Scottish First Minister didn’t hold back on his words when he asserted that he “cannot wait to see the back of them – good riddance to the Conservatives.”

Mass Tory Walkout Doesn’t Phase Sunak
Despite many hoping for an election in May and over 60 Tory MPs resigning ahead of the election, Sunak insists on waiting until Autumn.
Starmer’s Values Questioned
Yousaf also had an issue with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, slamming Starmer for his “values” that Yousaf called “Wrong.”
Vote For What You Believe In
Yousaf called on voters to judge candidates on their values, “In this election, Scotland has the choice of values and I will be calling on people to vote for what they believe in” he said.
Reason to be Cautious
According to Yousaf, Starmer’s willingness to lift the cap on “banker’s bonuses” rather than lifting the “two-child benefit cap” is a reason to be cautious about the Labour leader.
Tory Opposition to Yousaf
Criticism of Yousaf’s hardline speech came from Craig Hoy, the Conservative Chairman in Scotland, who accused the First Minister of covering up his own party’s failures.
Yousaf Just Deflecting From Party Failures
Hoy accused Yousaf of trying to “deflect attention” from allegedly allowing everything in Scotland to “become worse” under SNP rules and policies.
A Fiery Few Months Ahead
