Boris “I’ll Be Back” Johnson Teases Return to Tory Frontline

Johnson was asked whether he would make a political comeback, and ambiguously, he answered, leaving speculation about his political career.

Johnsons Political Career Is Unclear

Boris Johnson, the 59-year-old former prime minister, recently addressed an audience at Georgetown University in Washington, USA, when he stirred up rumours about his political future.

Scandals Lead to Step Down

Johnson ran as prime minister from 2019 to 2022, when he resigned after a mass revolt about his leadership and many scandals that followed.

Boris Claims “Kangaroo Court” Victim

After exiting Downing Street, Johnson stood down as MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip over a Commons investigation into the partygate scandal. He exclaimed that he was a victim of a “kangaroo court.”

Misleading Parliament Is a No-Go

It was also found that Johnson had intentionally misled Parliament when allegations about broken lockdown rules during the Covid-19 pandemic surfaced.

90 Day Suspension Was on the Cards

The privilege committee exposed Johnson’s misleading tactics, and if he had not resigned, he would have faced a 90-day suspension from Parliament.

Johnson was in the USA attending and speaking at the Center for European Policy Analysis and was introduced as ‘Prime Minister Boris Johnson.’

The moderator used this title following standard American custom, and Johnson replied, “I love the way you call me prime minister.”

PM Title Might Come in Handy

Johnson explained that the title is no longer used in the UK and “it might come in handy.” This remark was made in a comical sense but fuelled the speculation surrounding his next political move.

Short Term Running, Not Likely

The former prime minister made hints that he could stand for MP again in the future. But when asked directly about this, he replied, “I think it’s unlikely in the short term. I think the only circumstances in which anybody should stand for election is if they have something to contribute.”

Boris Talks War

For someone who feels like an MP is a position only for those who have something to say, Johnson sure had a lot to say about Trump and the Russian/Ukraine war.

Comments Seem Like a Man With Something to Contribute

Johnson felt the need to warn America that if Vladimir Putin were to seize Kyiv, it would be a “catastrophe” for American leadership. Comments as such don’t seem like he doesn’t have much to contribute.

Tories Hatch a Plan

Amidst the rumours, The Telegraph published an article revealing the “Henley plot,” which referred to how the Tories planned to reinstate Johnson as an MP and eventually make him the leader of the Conservative Party.

This plan sees very excited Johnson supporters forgetting about the newly appointed Caroline Newton, who has been appointed to the Henley constituency.

Stepping Aside Is Absurd

Newton was asked on LBC whether she would step aside to make way for Johnson, and she replied, “Absolutely not. The idea that a woman would step aside for a man to take a job that he just fancies is absurd.”

Rishi and Johnson Not on Talking Terms

Many have tutted away the rumours of Boris’ return, with Johnson allies claiming that Rishi Sunak and Johnson haven’t even spoken to each other in over a year, thus clarifying that there is no truth behind the election comeback.

However, at the end of Johnson’s final Prime Minister’s Questions (MPQ), he will be remembered as uttering the catchphrase from the famous film The Terminator, “Hasta la vista baby,” as he addressed the opposition.

Johnsons Two Cents

At the end of the MPQ, Johnson offered advice to his successor, encouraging the UK to remain close to the Americans, to stand up for Ukraine, and to stand up for democracy. With his latest trip to the USA and his unsolicited advice, it seems he is living up to numbers one and two, respectively.

With all the rumours, advice, and election involvement, we wonder if Johnson’s statement, “I’ll be back,” was an empty promise or an early warning.
