A Liberal Democrat has been suspended from the Party after it was revealed they supported controversial Rochdale MP George Galloway.

Galloway’s victory was scrutinized by many, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, due to the politician’s vocal support for the people of Palestine.

Rabina Asghar, a Liberal Democrat candidate, was pictured with Galloway in Rochdale, which the Party spotted on a social media post.
Politician’s Suspension
Once the picture was posted by George Galloway’s personal account, the Liberal Democrats responded by announcing Asghar’s immediate suspension.
“Get Labour Out!”
The post, “Get Labour Out! We are campaigning for Liberal Democrat Rabina Asghar in the Spotland Ward,” referenced a campaign to remove Labour from the constituency.

The post also revealed that the Workers Party did not offer a candidate for Spotland Ward because Asghar “is best placed to Get Labour Out!”
Lib Dems Distance From Galloway Support
In response to the social media post, the Liberal Democrats released a statement condemning the candidate’s support for Galloway and issuing Asghar’s suspension.

A spokesperson said, “We wholly reject the divisive politics of George Galloway and do not want any endorsement or connection to him.”
Removing Labour From Spotland
Galloway accused Labour of abusing their power in the constituency of Spotland, arguing, “We are determined to get Labour out of Spotland,” even if it meant supporting another Party’s candidate.

Galloway insisted he wanted, “to get Labour out of the town hall where they have abused their power for so very long.”

Galloway urged his supporters to vote for Asghar, arguing that she is the best candidate for the role.
