Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has accused Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of not believing in his proposed Rwanda bill, slamming it as a “Gimmick.”
Starmer Questions Sunak’s Bill
During PMQs in the House of Commons, the Labour leader shamed the Prime Minister for spending “£600 Million of taxpayers money” to deport only 300 migrants.
Staggering Numbers for Deportations
According to Starmer, “The Rwanda gimmick is going to cost the taxpayer £2 million for every one of the 300 people they deport.”
The Bigger Picture
Starmer argued that the 300 people that would be deported through the Rwanda bill only make up for 1% of the amount of migrants entering the UK on small boats.
Starmer Jokes About Sunak’s “Plane Ticket”
Starmer joked that the Prime Minister likes to “spend a lot on jet setting” referencing Sunak’s holidays, but argued “that’s some plane ticket” when talking about the price it would take to get the migrants on a plane to Rwanda.
Taxpayer Paying Price
Starmer argued that “the cost of Tory chaos” has resulted in the taxpayers paying millions, saying “It is working people who are paying the price.”
Sunak Using Rwanda for Votes?
Sunak was put on the spot when Starmer asserted that the Prime Minister himself didn’t really believe in the scheme, using it as a headline to get votes.

“We know the Prime Minister himself thought it wouldn’t work,” Starmer argued, before asking the House of Commons why anyone else should believe in the “Gimmick” if Sunak doesn’t.
