Suella Braverman’s Controversial Claims About Islamists Controlling the UK

Suella Braverman has insisted in a recent Telegraph article that Islamists are running the United Kingdom after a recent parliamentary debate descended into farce. Here’s the whole story.

Political Farce

In a political farce that made a mockery of Britain’s already tenuous link to any form of democratic seriousness, recent parliamentary deliberations ended with Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle admitting to a breach in security protocol regarding threats to Members of Parliament (MPs).

Previously, Parliament had descended into chaos after Hoyle allowed a vote on a Labour amendment to a bill calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Hoyle claimed he allowed the controversial vote to go ahead after reports that MPs had received threats over their positions on the ongoing war in Gaza.

Hoyle has since apologized for the move and admitted making the “wrong decision.”

A Good Scandal

However, politicians are never ones to let a good scandal pass them by, and the madness in the Commons now appears to be leaking out into the country.

Islamist Control

In a barbed article in the Telegraph, disgraced former Home Secretary Suella Braverman, sacked by Rishi Sunak after she made comments about police not being hard enough on peaceful protesters, has claimed that Britain was now under the control of Islamists.

“They Have Bullied Our Country”

Braverman wrote: “The truth is that the Islamists, the extremists and the anti-Semites are in charge now. They have bullied the Labour Party, they have bullied our institutions, and now they have bullied our country into submission.”

Troubling Trend

In her unique take on the matter, the chaos in the commons signaled a troubling trend of capitulation to extremist elements.

Backroom Deals

Braverman accused Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer of collusion in backroom dealings to pass the amendment.

Storm in a Teacup

It is important to remember that this political storm in a teacup is over a ceasefire vote for a conflict that grows bloodier every day it continues.

Rallying Around

However, other members of Braverman’s party rallied around, echoing her concerns, with Rishi Sunak stating, “I think the important point here is that we should never let extremists intimidate us into changing the way in which Parliament works.”

“Burying Their Heads in the Sand”

Braverman also went through all her favorite right-wing talking points, claiming that multiculturalism has failed and that politicians are “burying their heads in the sand.”

Missing Information

Braverman did not go into detail about when multiculturalism had failed, either before or after her parents immigrated to the UK in the 1960s, and she, as a child of immigrants, rose to the heights of government.

Afraid of Speaking Out

Braverman also claimed that politicians were scared to speak out for fear of being labelled racist, which did not stop her from going on to make several arguably racist statements.

Imagined Enemies

Braverman wrote: “We need to wake up to what we are sleep-walking into: a ghettoized society where free expression and British values are diluted. Where Sharia law, the Islamist mob and anti-Semites take over communities.”

Missing Mobs

There are currently no communities or areas of Britain where Sharia law is the law of the land, and there is a distinct lack of Islamist mobs anywhere to be seen.

Free Expression

However, Braverman also spoke out about the danger she saw to free expression, while practicing her free expression by writing in one of the nation’s leading right-wing newspapers.

“Speak Truthfully”

Braverman wrote: “We need to overcome the fear of being labelled Islamophobic and speak truthfully. Enough of the hand-wringing and apologies. Turning a blind eye to fanatics has got us into this terrible situation: it needs to stop.”

Underground Reporting

It is quite frankly astounding that the “Islamist mob” running Britain allowed her to print such an article.

Not Done

However, Braverman was not finished yet. She also called out the Prevent program, which was designed to counter radicalism and extremism by forcing councils, teachers, and police to report anyone they might consider an “extremist.”

Braverman mentioned William Shawcross’s review of the Prevent program, in which he claimed that not enough was being done to prevent extremism.

Islamophobic and Racist

Braverman went on to defend the program, which many have labelled as Islamophobic and racist.

“By The Back Door”

She then called for schools to be given more guidance on preventing blasphemy laws from being introduced “by the back door” in educational settings.

“It is Not Criminal”

Braverman wrote: “We cannot allow teachers to be hounded out of schools because a picture [] was shown, or children to be censured because a Koran was scuffed accidentally. In this country, it is perfectly lawful to criticize any religion or God. One may disagree passionately, but it is not criminal.”

Extremism and Free Expression

As Britain grapples with the complexities of extremism and free expression, it becomes increasingly evident that a more nuanced approach than Braverman suggests is required.

Fundamental Freedoms

Any approach to tackle the problem of Islamist extremism must uphold fundamental freedoms while also addressing legitimate security concerns.

Amplifying the Culture War

While conflicts continue across the globe, Braverman only amplifies a culture war on an entire religion, with her most recent contribution helping to keep the ongoing hostilities out of the headlines for another day and waving a red flag to her supporters.
