Former swimmer Riley Gaines shared her thoughts on the use of the term “biological” to describe birth-assigned sexes. Here’s what she said.

A Vocal Advocate

Gaines, who gained national attention after tying for fifth place in the 2022 NCAA Swim Championships with Trans athlete Lia Thomas, has been a vocal advocate for preserving the integrity of women’s sports.

She has actively lobbied for legislation that would prevent biological males from competing in women’s sports in colleges and universities.

The Interview

In her recent appearance on “Varney & Co.,” Gaines shared her evolving thoughts on the term “biological woman.”

The Truth

She said “Look, I’ll be the first to say I adhered to this for a long time, too. I thought I had to make the distinction that I am, in fact, a biological woman. But it hit me a few weeks ago, really, what we were doing when we added that prefix of ‘biological’ because we’re admitting there’s an un-biological alternative, and there is not.”

Idea of ‘Biological Woman’ Is Crazy

Gaines added, “There is man, there is woman, there’s male, there’s female, mother, father, boy, girl. This idea of ‘biological woman’ is crazy.”

Language Matters

The former Kentucky swimmer went on to explain the significance of language in shaping our perceptions.

She said, “I don’t think we realize how much language matters, how important it is because when we use these words, we put emphasis behind them.”

God Created the Only Distinction We’ll Ever Need

“It dictates our well-being. It dictates what these words mean. And so I think God created the only distinction we’ll ever need when He created man and woman,” she added.

The Governing Bodies

One of Gaines’ central concerns is the role of governing bodies in competitions, including the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and International Olympic Committee.

Total Cowards

She criticized these organizations as “total cowards” for failing to acknowledge the physical advantages held by biological males competing against females.

They Are Lying

She said, “They have said that there is no presumptive advantage between the two sexes. And they’ve now taken all hands off deck. They’re leaving each specific sport governing body to make the decision for their own sport.”

The Concerns

Looking ahead to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Gaines expressed concerns that Trans athletes may compete opposite their birth-assigned sex.

Spineless

“As I said, they’re spineless. They’re following the money. They don’t want lawsuits. They don’t want to lose federal funding. None of that,” she said.

Female Athletes Are Being Exploited in Locker Rooms

“And so they choose to leave all hands off deck, which is a very unfortunate response because it means that we as women, we as female athletes, are becoming collateral damage. We’re being exploited in locker rooms where we have to risk our safety, especially in physical contact sports,” she added.

Twitter Users Expressed Their Views

Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.

One Twitter user wrote, “I don’t see the point in denying that some biological men prefer to try to live as women. You can’t prevent your opponents from calling those “women.” Doesn’t the adjective “biological” add precision?”

Gender Is a Vague Term

Another user added, “I agree. For the same reason, I refuse to use the term “gender.” There are 2 sexes, male and female! Gender is a vague term that draws you into their world of unreality. Sex is a concrete term and has real meaning.”

The Agenda

A third user commented, “She is so right! When did these people who told us to follow the science decide not to follow the science? I guess when it fits their agenda”
