“Women’s Rights are Not in Conflict With Trans Rights” – Angela Rayner Stands by Comments Towards Feminist ‘Hate Groups’

Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Angela Rayner, has refused to apologize after endorsing trans rights that labelled organizations like Women’s Place UK and the LGB Alliance as “trans-exclusionist hate groups.”

Angela Rayner is a prominent British politician serving as the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party since April 2020 and has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashton-under-Lyne since 2015.

In Rayner’s 2020 campaign for deputy leader of the Labour Party,  Rayner endorsed a trans rights charter that labelled organizations such as Women’s Place UK and the LGB Alliance as “trans-exclusionist hate groups”.

After labelling these organisations as “hate groups” towards the trans community, the charter also called for people to oppose such groups for their promotion of transphobia actively.

The Cass Review

In a recent study called the Cass Review, the study investigated gender identity services for children and reported “remarkably weak evidence” for the effectiveness of current gender treatments for children.

Disappointed by the Evidence

In her study, Dr. Cass said, “I have been disappointed by the lack of evidence on the long-term impact of taking hormones from an early age; research has let us all down, most importantly you.”

No Good Evidence

Dr. Cass then went on to say, “The reality is we have no good evidence on the long-term outcomes of interventions to manage gender-related distress.”

Criticizing the Stigma

The Cass Review also made a point to criticize the stigma surrounding the trans community and the polarized debate it has created for covering the issue with fear and toxicity, ultimately inhibiting open discussion.

Debating Trans Rights

In a recent Labour party conference they highlighted the tensions within the party due to reports of transphobic abuse and debates about the compatibility of women’s rights with trans rights. 

Advocating for Transgender

Rayner has voiced her support for modifying the Gender Recognition Act to facilitate easier legal changes of gender and advocating for the rights of the transgender community alongside women’s rights.

In her support for trans rights, Rayner said, “Women’s rights are not in conflict with trans rights,” she said, “My struggle is your struggle.”

Duffield’s Belief

One MP who faced considerable criticism for her stance on trans issues, Rosie Duffield, recognized that her opinion might not be respected but also spoke on the necessity of standing up for her beliefs despite threats.

In her defence of her stance regarding trans rights, Duffield said, “There comes a point where you have to stand up and speak.”

A Vile Campaign

Coming to Duffield’s defence at the Labour conference on Tuesday, one party member, Bronwen Davies, said Ms Duffield had been “subjected to a vile campaign of abuse for daring to express beliefs which she is perfectly entitled to hold.”

Defend to the Death

Davies then went on to say that, “Even if I disagreed with her, I would defend to the death her right to express her views without being subjected to a torrent of misogynistic abuse.”

Making No Apology

Angela Rayner and other senior Labour figures have also faced criticism for their positions, but Raynar has maintained her stance without public retraction or apology.

However, other members of the party, like Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting, have stepped back their support for statements like “trans women are women” and have decidedly taken a more nuanced position towards sex and gender.

Despite the heated debate, Labour Party spokespeople have reiterated the party’s commitment to having these difficult discussions respectfully and without tolerance for abuse.
